56 Year Old Female Cyclist Killed By Cement Truck In Ottawa.
A 56-year-old cyclist is dead after she was hit by a cement truck early Tuesday evening. The crash took place at Riverside Drive and Bank Street at 6:15 p.m.
The force of the impact mangled the woman’s pale-blue bike. It lay on a nearby bike path as paramedics tried in vain to save the woman.
There was little they could do. The woman was dead at the scene. The exact circumstances of the crash weren’t immediately clear; collisions investigators were at the scene, laying out markers as they began to methodically reconstruct what had taken place.
Police said an inspector from the ministry of transportation was also at the scene Tuesday to examine the cement truck for mechanical flaws or other signs that something was amiss. Bank Street remained closed between Riverdale Avenue and Billings Bridge two hours after the crash.
Police could not say when the road might reopen.
The cyclist’s name was not released Tuesday night.
Culled from Ottawa Sun.
Sad!! Ottawa cyclists, ride safe and be aware. Drivers, it is cycling season. watch out.
