Update: Press Release From Nigerian High Comission In Respect Of The Two Nigerian Students Facing Deportation From Canada.

I published a story a while ago about two Nigerian student facing deportation, if you missed it, read it Here.

The Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa gave a press release on the issue.
The High Commission stated that they did intervene in the matter, however, the students complicated matters by filing for refugee status and that implicated them and made their appeal look fishy.
"The students however complicated matters by claiming refugee status, making it impossible for the Mission to pursue their cause through proper diplomatic channels. An application for refugee status by a national who is facing a deportation order is an implicit rejection of the country from which one is supposedly fleeing from. It undermines the credibility and authority of the government of that country through its Mission to intervene effectively on its behalf. Yet we did'
They also appealed to Nigerians to respect and live by the laws guarding the immigration status of the host Country to avoid issues like this, because as an Embassy, they are also bound to respect the laws of the host country, while at the same time serving and protecting Nigerian citizens."
